What do male and female students think of ITS?

The ITS are dedicated to those who want to enter the world of work. Whether a student has completed upper secondary school or has obtained a degree click here, ITS are a privileged access to the world of work for those who wish to acquire specific, updated training in line with the professional figures most sought after by companies.

They are a short and complete training course because they consist of a theoretical part and a practical part. But how much do students know about the possibilities offered by ITS? It is a key question to ask, because those who are unaware of its existence cannot choose this path.

The Talents Venture Observatory interviewed young people in classes IV and V of upper secondary schools to verify their knowledge of the training course offered by the ITS. The survey was carried out on a random basis and unfortunately did not give encouraging results.

According to Indire data, today there are 128 ITS.

They have about 20,000 members, but it is still a small number which often prevents the courses themselves from taking off within the established times.

In fact, despite the strong media attention and the training structure aimed at rapid entry into the job market, ITS have so far received limited interest from young people.

A possible cause identified is the lack of knowledge of the training possibilities offered by ITS which leads to their exclusion as pathways.

In fact, 4 out of 10 young people are unaware of their existence.

Furthermore, among the people who know the ITS, only 18% declare that they are really aware of them, while 42% declare that they know them only by hearsay.

Following the description of the main characteristics of the ITS course, 63% of the boys consider it quite or very interesting.

What makes ITS unattractive?

Going to investigate what are the reasons that make ITS little or not at all interesting for students (about 39% of the sample) it turns out that in the majority of cases it is the topics covered that are unattractive. 51% of those not interested in the ITS course declare a lack of attraction for the subjects covered.

This is an interesting indication with a view to making the training offer more varied.

Among the other reasons that lead to not appreciating the ITS offer is the conviction of not obtaining greater skills than those obtained in high school.

What makes ITS unattractive

23% of those not interested in ITS training support it.

On the other hand, 22% declare that they do not perceive significant differences in the ITS with the university path which, however, gives the advantage of obtaining a degree.

The ITS, for their part, should leverage employment capacity, and in fact have interesting employment results: according to Indire data, 8 out of 10 graduates from ITS find work one year after graduation, and 91% of those who find employment carry out a coherent job with completed studies.

Knowing these data is important because they serve to guide the organization and guidance activities carried out by the ITS.

Furthermore, being aware of these trends will help to spend the Pnrr funds allocated to ITS in the best way.

  • This is 1.5 billion euros that accompany and support a reform aimed at enhancing the offer of ITS, increasing its attractiveness and clarifying some elements of governance.
  • Among the interventions, the establishment of a national ITS committee was envisaged, which will promote guidance activities in high schools.

Furthermore, a link between ITS and professionally oriented degrees has been envisaged which could help add signal value to ITS degrees and raise more interest among young people.

In the future, it will be essential to continue collecting data to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the interventions envisaged by the reform to strengthen the ITS system.
